CMU-College of Business and Management’s Accountancy Department adds pride to the university as they announced another international achievement last October 19, 2024, as the first university in the Philippines to be part of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Internal Audit Awareness Program.

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is an international organization dedicated to safeguarding the internal audit profession by promoting laws and policies that align with the standards and best practices of internal auditing. Through its Internal Audit Awareness Program, the organization acknowledges universities for teaching internal auditing as a standalone course.

“Achieving such achievements brings so much pride to the university, but what we actually did was just simple,” revealed Mr. Pacaldo, the CBM’s Accountancy Department, Chief of Internal Audit Services, “We just really comply with the requirements needed, provided the syllabus related to internal auditing, and days later, we have been recognized.”

Becoming the first university in the Philippines to be recognized by the IIA, Mr. Pacaldo highlights the importance of this milestone to further boost and promotes the institution’s competence and vision of delivering the best for every CMUan.

Additionally, the milestone enables the student of CMU’s Bachelor of Science in Internal Auditing (BSIA) to access resources and broader opportunities, essential for their certification on the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and future endeavors.

BSIA students expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Pacaldo and the faculty, noting that the recognition boosted their chosen program’s pride—allowing them to feel even more proud.

However, knowing CMU as a competitive institution, Mr. Pacaldo emphasized that the said recognition is just their first step, “We are just being recognized, and what we wanted right now is an official partnership with the IIA, and that’s what we are currently working for.”

Mr. Pacaldo also hinted that they are already starting to prepare the documents needed for another possible milestone early next year. For him, the process and time needed are long, but the results will be surely significant and impactful.
