With a record-breaking delegation of 1,168 athletes representing the Philippine flag, the Philippines finished sixth on the stat sheet at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games after delivering its clinical performance and clinching a total of 276 medals composed of 50 golds, 73 silvers, and 153 bronzes across 50 sports held in Thailand from December 9-20, 2025.
The Philippines displayed heart and a never-say-die attitude by winning gold medals across multiple disciplines, including taekwondo, swimming, jiujitsu, gymnastics, baseball, triathlon, esports, Muay Thai, windsurfing, tennis, and athletics, highlighting the depth and versatility of Filipino athletes.
Furthermore, hard-hitting Alexandra Eala and Bryan Bagunas proudly carried the Philippine flag during the parade of nations at the opening ceremony, leading Team Philippines into the regional meet.
Eala later sealed a breakthrough season with gold, delivering the country’s first women’s singles tennis crown in SEA Games history.
Following this victorious emergence, assiduous EJ Obiena powered his way to dominance in the men’s pole vault, clearing a groundbreaking 5.70 meters and securing his fourth back-to-back SEA Games gold supremacy.
Moreover, Kayla Sanchez surged to gold in the women’s 100-meter freestyle while Mazel Alegado and Jericho Francisco Jr. claimed top ranks in the women’s and men’s skateboard park events, respectively, further boosting the Philippine medal haul.
In martial arts and combat sports, Justin Kobe Macario, Tachiana Mangin, Erika Bomogao, Geli Bulaong, Chino Sy-Tacontian, Dean Roxas, and Anne Custodio demonstrated grit and resilience, dominating their respective events and securing gold medals that left their opponents in a crushing defeat.
Meanwhile, in team events, Gilas Pilipinas Men’s basketball claimed gold with a thrilling 70-64 victory against Thailand, despite trailing in the first quarter of every game. They remained unbeaten and captured their second consecutive first-place finish in the biennial meet.
Refusing to be left behind, Gilas Pilipinas Women’s Basketball also struck gold after edging host Thailand, 73-70, in a nail-biting finish.
Team Philippines’ MLBB men’s squad put on a masterclass, completely dominating their opponents with a flawless 4-0 sweep over Malaysia, leaving no room for a comeback and storming to gold in a match that lasted less than 10 minutes.
With precision, teamwork, and lightning-fast execution, the Filipino athletes fought relentlessly and showed resilience and determination in every moment of the competitions, paving the way for the Philippines to claim victory and leaving a mark of excellence that will be remembered long after the final whistle.
Despite dropping to sixth place from fifth in the 2023 SEA Games, Filipino athletes still brought pride and honor to their fellowmen and etched a new historic milestone that displayed the Philippines’ resilience, skill, and sportsmanship.
