Unity in Uncertainty

Calamities strike without warningโ€”but what they truly reveal is not just the damage left behind, but the strength of those who endure. In recent weeks, Central Mindanao University (CMU) students have faced not just academic pressure, but the weight of uncertainty that struck the community. The constant rainfall, flooding, and quakes have not only disrupted classes but also left many CMUans in a state of worry and anxiety, fearful of what more could come.

For many students who live far from their families, the situation is distressing. Their minds are split between catching up with academic requirements and ensuring the safety of their loved ones at home. With class suspensions and power interruptions piling up, time feels shorter, deadlines feel tighter, and the sense of normalcy becomes harder to regain. Each news report of lives lost or families displaced only deepens the unease of being away, not knowing if their family members are safe or if their hometown is affected.

Yet, amid these difficult times, the CMU community has once again shown its heart. The calamities, though devastating, revealed the resilience and camaraderie that define CMUans. Despite the challenges, students and staff alike continue to show compassion and the willingness to help one another, proving that even in moments of fear and uncertainty, unity remains stronger than despair.

But these events also serve as a wake-up call. We must not take these calamities lightly or treat them as passing inconveniences. Just because we may be safe within campus grounds does not mean others share the same privilege. While some of us worry about meeting deadlines, others are struggling to survive, to rebuild homes, to find food, and to mourn their loved ones.

As part of an academic and compassionate community, we must choose empathy and action. Let us continue to extend kindness, offer help in any way we can, and remain aware of the realities faced by others. Above all, let us remember that resilience is not just about surviving, but about standing together.

In the end, what keeps us going is the strength we find in one another. The storms may come again, but so will weโ€”stronger, wiser, and more ready to face whatever lies ahead, together.
