Musuan, Maramag—Central Mindanao University’s (CMU) security guard personnel continued the legal demolition of houses and properties in CMU Green Valley, sparking tension between the residents and the operation team on October 21, 2025.
Prior to this issue, the residents were reportedly informed and given sufficient time to remove their houses from the area.
On June 16, 2025, the university released an official statement stating that the Municipal Trial Court of Maramag-Kalilangan-Pangantucan, presided over by Acting Judge Hon. Tristram C. Tenebro, had ruled in favor of CMU since the previous year, on June 18, 2024.
Despite the ruling last October 21, 2025, a short video uploaded on Facebook by one of the security guard personnel stated that the construction of the now-demolished house was not yet finished during the release of the official statement, but regardless, the residents still continued the construction.
The video was captioned, “Gihatagan kini sila sa pag bulontaryong pagguba sa maong gitugud na balay apan wala nila kini giguba ug gipadayun pa hinuon pag trabaho.” (They have been given a chance to voluntarily demolish the house they were constructing at that moment, but they continued the construction instead.)
In the video, anger, sadness, and fear filled the CMU Green Valley during the demolishment. While the security guards followed orders, the residents fought, even trying to smash the guards with a wood.
“Pamusila kami, Sir, pamusila kami. Pamatya kami, Sir.” (Shoot us with that gun, Sir, shoot us. Kill us, Sir.) said one of the residents during the demolition.
However, the operation team is firm that they have only done their part as security guards and what they did was the rightful thing to do.
“Kame nigamit ug kusog alang sa pagguba sa maong balay, kay if pasagdan ra ni sila naay dakung posibilidad nga managhan napud na sila diring dapita.” (We have used our full strength to demolish the house because if we let it be fully constructed, there is a high possibility that numbers of residents will do the same in the area.) said one of the security personnel.
As tensions persist between property rights and university authority, the CMU operation team affirmed that demolition efforts will continue to reclaim university-owned land while ensuring that all procedures remain within legal bounds.
